Geodesy and State Plane Coordinate System (2 PDH)
Datums and State Plane Coordinate Systems (2 PDH)
This is an over two hour substance packed class on datums, datums, and more datums. John Pavlik delves into:
- Geodetic Datums
- State Plane Coordinate Systems
- Vertical Datums
This is taught in a way that the most common layman can understand. Simple state plane conversion calculations are discussed, and give a comfort feeling about what is actually happening when going from an ellipsoid to a plane. You will feel confident about the shape of the earth and all of its origins once you are done. When discussing state plane, Mr. Pavlik uses the California state plane system as an example.
After a four-year tour of duty in the U.S. Navy, John attended Fullerton College and California State University at Fullerton continuing on to obtain his teaching credentials at the University of California at Riverside. He became a licensed land surveyor in 1982 while working for the Orange County Surveyor for 38 years in various capacities until 2013 when he retired. His last assignment there was Right of Way Engineering Manager, a position he held starting in 1997. During his career he also taught part time in both the California State University system and Community Colleges since 1983. He is co-author of the CSULB Land Surveying Review Manual and the IIT Engineering Surveying Review Manual. John has presented professional exam preparation courses for the LSIT (FS), LS and PE examinations since 1984, helping well over one thousand people obtain their professional registration. Since retirement John consults on a part time basis and continues to teach when not enjoying his many other interests.
